Teachers of the Year

The 2021-2022 Cullman County Teachers of the Year were each presented awards Friday, April 22 at the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce State of Education luncheon.

Elementary Teacher of the Year: Anna Calvert, West Point Elementary

Anna Calvert has been teaching Kindergarten at West Point Elementary for 34 years. Mrs. Calvert has been a mentor to many teachers, has served on many school committees, and has been a positive influence on thousands of children during her career.

"Mrs. Calvert gets to know every student in her class as a whole person," said Michael Lindsey, West Point Elementary principal. "She can see exactly what each child brings to the learning community. Her whole teaching approach involves finding and using children's unique strengths to help them overcome their struggles and develop a positive self-concept," said Lindsey.

Secondary Teacher of the Year: Anita Whitlock, Good Hope High

Anita Whitlock teaches English and Theater at Good Hope High. She never gives up on her students and pushes them all to be their very best. "Mrs. Whitlock is the teacher that is always uplifting and positive to her fellow teachers," said Dr. John Hood, Good Hope High principal. "She can always be counted on to be that person who will lift your spirits when you talk to her," said Hood.

Cullman County Schools congratulates both Mrs. Calvert and Mrs. Whitlock for your hard work and dedication to the students of Cullman County.
